There are somethings in life that you just can’t let slide. And then there are perpetrators of somethings that you just can’t let slide. Every now and again people may think that they can get away with certain things with you on the strength of you being you. They wouldn’t try that thing with someone else. They wouldn’t take that tone with another person. Nor would they even think that, that behavior is remotely okay if you were somebody else.

Figuring out someone else’s behavior is not your responsibility. What is your responsibility is figuring out what you find tolerable in your life. There are some people who just do egregious things. The recipient of that behavior doesn’t matter, they just do what they do. Then there are people who wouldn’t dare act goofily among any other crowd. But because it’s you, they may think, oh why not or, this is my chance.

In both of those scenarios you must choose how you respond to that kind of behavior. If people are just going to do what they do, that’s fine, but do you want to be part of what’s being done? If people are acting a certain way towards, around, or with you, then you must decide if that is the type of behavior that you want to allow around yourself.
